What exactly is the gospel?

Jesus Christ said, "...repent and believe in the gospel." (Mark 1:15)  It is vitally important to find out what Jesus meant when He called on people to believe in the gospel.  The word "gospel" means good news, so Jesus is asking all who will listen to believe in the good news that He is giving them.  This good news has been well documented in the pages of the Bible.  I hope you will take a few minutes to read below or click on this link and watch a brief video to discover what Jesus meant when he declared, "repent and believe in the gospel."

The Bible teaches that because of sin, our worldly life is keeping us from experiencing a relationship with the eternal God and creator of all things.  But God took the initiative to pave the way for sinners to come to Him through the gift of His Son, Jesus Christ.  One benefits from this gracious gift by acknowledging their need and personally receiving Jesus as Lord and the all sufficient Savior will bring us into a relationship with God.  This results in eternal live and the  power for us to overcome sin and begin living life with joy and spiritual abundance.  This is well documented in the scripture below.  Please take a few minutes to consider the "good news" that has been offered to you.

1. Man is a sinner and sin has separated him from God.
Romans 3:23 "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."

2. Man through the ages has tried to bridge the gap which separates himself from God by doing good works, living moral lives, devising profound philosophies, even being religious. But he has always failed.
Ephesians 2:8-9 "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast."

3. There is only one remedy for the problem of sin and separation. God's remedy for sin is Jesus Christ crucified.

Christ died for our sins:
Romans 5:8, "But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."

Christ rose from the dead:
Romans 10:9 "That if you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."

Jesus Christ is the only way to God:
John 14:6 Jesus said unto him, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No man comes to the Father except through me."

4. You must receive Christ as your personal Lord and Savior. Here's how you can personally receive Christ.
John 1:11-13, "He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him.  But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God."

If you are willing to take these four steps, and sincerely believe in the gospel, then pray this simple prayer of faith:

"Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner.
Thank you for dying on the cross for my sins.
I open the door of my life and receive you as my Savior and Lord.
Please take control of my life
and help me be the kind of person you want me to be.
Amen."

If you took these steps of faith the Bible says that you now have a relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
